After a difficult year, the finals are now set.

This year was supposed to be a new beginning, having come off an off-year due to COVID, 2021 had some new twists and turn. With the Olympics being thrown in, the WSL tour year is now coming to an end and the final five surfers are set on both the men and women sides.

She will go up against seven-time champ and Mexico event winner Stephanie Gilmore and three explosive talents all searching for their first title, Brazil’s Tatiana Weston-Webb, Australia’s Sally Fitzgibbons, and France’s Johanne Defay.

On the men’s side, three high-flying Brazilians top the rankings with runaway World No. 1 Gabriel Medina, reigning World Champion Italo Ferreira, and Filipe Toledo, winner of the last CT event held at Lower Trestles. They are joined by two young power surfers, California native Conner Coffin and standout Australian rookie Morgan Cibilic.
