Fan Guide To The US Open Of Surfing At Huntington Beach
The US Open of Surfing is upon us and the surf world is ready to dive in.
The US Open of Surfing at Huntington Beach in California is about as classic as surf contests get. A long history that brought many champions into stardom. This year the US Open of Surfing is presented by Shiseido and will be the first stop for the 2021 Challenger Series. Bring added appeal to this historic stage.
Young up-and-coming surfers will have the chance to change their lives and qualify for the 2022 Championship tour. Season veterans will be mixed in to make that task that much harder. The contest is set to run between September 20 and September 26 but has already kicked off the beginning rounds on day one. All heats will be streaming live on the WSL YouTube channel.
This is the first of four Challenger series to make it on tour next year. 10,000 points will be up for grabs to the winner. There will be 96 athletes on the men’s side and 64 on the women’s side.
Notable names looking to brig him the legendary US Open title are Griffin Colapinto, Conner Coffin, Caroline Marks, Sage Erickson, Kanoa Igarashi, and Courtney Conlogue. Marks is coming off a win at the Nissan Super Girl Pro this past weekend. Erickson is the defending champion and looks to hold onto her crown.
There are also several young surfers who are hungry to dethrone the top dogs.
