Sage Erickson will not get the opportunity to defend her U.S Open of Surfing title this year. Erickson put out a statement on social media saying that she has tested positive for COVID-19 and will have to quarantine.

Erickson is the last winner of the competition in Huntington Beach California back in 2019. The event, like most others, was canceled last year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. She was looking to be one of the favorites in this 2021 U.S Open but she will miss the event due to her COVID-19 diagnosis. She spoke to fans about how she is feeling on her personal Instagram.

“Unfortunately due to Covid I’ve had to withdraw from both the Super Girl Pro and the Us Open Of Surfing,” Erickson wrote. “It’s been a hard one to accept as these two events are my favorite. Covid doesn’t seem to care about anyone’s schedules so I’m thankful to be getting this out of the way. Lots of love 💕 and always trusting God in every part of my life 🙏🏻”

Not only did her coming down with COVID-19 keep her out of the U.S Open contest, but pushed her out of the Nissan Super Girl Pro event last weekend as well. Always Board sends well wishes to Sage and hopes for a fast recovery.
