The MEO Vissla Pro is the next stop on the challenger series and is set to kick on Oct. 2 in Portugal.

After the Challenger Series kicked off in Huntington Beach, CA, it was clear that these surfers were coming to charge. Now the next stop of the series is set to take place in Portugal. The MEO Vissla Pro will be held in Ericeira and have a holding period that starts on Oct. 2 and runs through Oct. 10.

The break is Ribeira D’Ilhas, a famous right break that will be firing in early October. Portugal is home to some of the world’s best surf, and Ribeira D’Ilhas is no different. Because of the killer swell, this event will be enticing some of the best in the world to give it a try. Confirmed for the event are Italo Ferreira, Vasco Ribeiro, Frederico Morais, Keely Andrew, and Carolina Mendes.

This will be the first time the ladies have surfed Ribeira D’Ilhas in a contest since 2016. Andrews is among the few that have been here before.

“This is my second time competing here in Ericeira as I was in the World Juniors in 2014 and I’ve visited every single year I came for the CT,” Andrew said. “I’m really excited to be back competing on this wave, the conditions should be good and the depth of talent in the women’s division is really strong.”

French Olympian Michel Bourez is also ready to make a splash in Portugal.

“The potential for solid surf here is good news for everyone who loves long, big rights,” Bourez commented. “There’ll be waves for everyone, it’s a pleasure to be here among all the great future surfers coming up and hopefully I’ll end up on the top!”
