Van’s Digital Triple Crown Set To Begin December 21
It is that time of year again when the big surf season is beginning. Winter might not seem like optimal surfing weather for most of the U.S but in Hawaii, it is going off. The onset of digital contests began last year when the COVID-19 pandemic kept surfers out of the water. They were so successful in some cases that they are being brought back again this year. The Van’s Triple Crown of Surfing is one such digital contest that is making a comeback.
The Triple Crown is one of surfing’s most notable titles. In past years, surfers had to travel to all three spots on tour and surf in the three contests. The winners of the triple crown are among the best to have ever stepped foot on a surfboard. In 2020 the event went digital and this year they will be doing it again.
The format for the Triple Crown is as follows:
The event will run from Dec. 21 through Jan. 21. Each surfer will be able to send in their best two waves from each of the three historic locations. Those locations are, Haleiwa, Sunset Beach, and Pipeline/Backdoor Pipe.
The prizes for this event will be a total of $217,000, split equally among men and women. The categories are Overall Vans Triple Crown Champions, Top 5 placings for men and women at each location, Vans Crown Clips winners, Fan Vote winners, and Videography.
The winner will be announced at the Awards Ceremony that will take place on January 23, 2022.
Last year’s winners were John John Florence and Carissa Moore. The women’s division was included in 2020 for the first time in nine years. This year the ladies will be back to show what they’ve got and send it.
Registration is ongoing if you think you have what it takes to bring home this coveted title.
