2022 Vans Pipe Masters Big Winners Are Molly Picklum and Balaram Stack
The 2022 Vans Pipe Masters competition is in the books and the winners are Molly Picklum and Balaram Stack.
During the three days in which the Vans Pipe Masters competition runs on the North Shore of Oahu fans can see some of the best surfing of the year. This year the scoring was a bit different and it opened up a whole new caliber of surfing at this famed location. Pipeline and Backdoor are known as being some of the most dangerous waves in the world. The sharp shallow reek makes for amazing barreling waves but scary conditions. The lineup at Pipeline is one of the most difficult to get into on a regular basis and therefore makes it difficult to get substantial practice on this unique wave.
For the 2022 Vans Pipe Masters event riders were being scored on awesome barrels and impressive airs equally. The change brought about exciting rides and new champions.
The 2022 Vans Pipe Master Results Are As Follows:
Men’s Final
1-Balaram Stack
2- Griffin Colapinto
3-Kaulana Apo
4-Joao Chianca
Women’s Final
1-Molly Picklum
2-Bettylou Sakura-Johnson
3-Caity Simmers
4-Carrissa Moore
The stars were out in full force and with the beginning of the WSL 2023 season just a few weeks away, the top athletes were getting back in the swing of things in Hawaii.
“One of the best waves of my life today in the @vanssurfevents #PipeMasters,” Carrissa Moore wrote on Instgram. “So grateful that I somehow made the drop and got under the lip just in time. I was pretty nervous before paddling out watching some big sets hit the reef and a lot of water moving through the lineup. Hearing the guys say it was challenging and scary made it even a little more intimidating. Really proud of all the ladies pushing the limits out there today. Totally inspired by the combined passion towards progress and to see what’s possible. Mahalo @vanssurfevents for the opportunity to surf this incredible wave with only a few other women 🥰🙏🏼 video/ @anewearthproject @peterkingphoto photo/ @scottsullivanphoto.”
