Garrett McNamara’s journey for the 100 foot wave is now an HBO series

Garrett McNamara is known for riding giants. He is the first man to have ever set his board down the steep mountains that rise in the sea at Nazare, Portugal. Now his journey to ride the 100-foot wave is all set out and ready for the viewer to enjoy as part of a limited series on HBO.

Beginning in 2011, the story of McNamara and his wife Nicole shows how the town of Nazare became one of the biggest surf spots for big wave surfers. He shows the evolution of the wave and the few people who have chooses to ride these monsters. The footage shows the trials and tribulations that McNamara and his team had to go through to get permission to ride the waves, how they set up safety, and how they finally got the ride of a lifetime.

For those who have never been to Nazare, but find this sort of giants wave fascinating, this is the show for you. A great mix of surfing and personal backstory allows the viewer to connect with McNamara and his crew and see waves that otherwise might never have been seen.
