The Ultimate Surfer winners Are Crowned, WSL Contracts Given Out
The ABC “The Ultimate Surfer” has now ended their first season and the first-ever man and woman winners have been named.
The concept of the show wasn’t something new, but the way it played out was both enjoyable and educational. Like its UFC counterpart, “The Ultimate Fighter”, The Ultimate Surfer looked to hand out a contract to the best up and coming surfer. Along the way, the show did a good job of teaching non-surfing fans about the sport. Below is a recap of the season and announcements of the winner.
Spoilers ahead!!!
The Winners Are:
Ezekiel Lau and Tia Blanco
Lau and Blanco worked hard to make their way to the finals. Both had to fight in multiple Surf-offs and took down some of the toughest competitors at the Surf Ranch. These two will now have the opportunity to try their skills against the best on The WSL CT as they will each receive four wild card spots on next year’s tour.
The Ultimate Surfer had a good mix of drama and fun. Living up to the surf lifestyle, each surfer had shots of them making smoothies and doing yoga before surfing. The spotlight on Kelly Slater and his Kelly-vision was a good addition to get a casual surf fan interested. Despite the cheesiness of the spotlight shots, the surfers all seemed camera-worthy.
Each week there was a beach challenge and a surf challenge. The beach challenges were more reality TV-type things purely for fun, but the surf challenges were a good opportunity to show the different styles and maneuvers of surfing.
Hopefully, there will be a second season of this fun show.
