HBO’s 100 Foot Wave Has Been Renewed For A Third Season
There will be another thrilling season of HBO’s hit series “100 Foot Wave.” This show captivated the audience and introduced the monster wave of Nazare, Portugal to a whole new fanbase a few years ago. The first season aired back in 2021 and was a smash hit. The first season followed big wave rider and Nazare pioneer Garrett McNamara and his wife Nicole as they began to ride this monster wave that had never been ridden before.
McNamara has become known as the Godfather of big wave surfing and the story of the first season showed how he got that title. For decades the wave at Nazare was thought of as being too big to ride until McNamara got wind of it. He brought a crew that included Andrew Cotton or Cotty for short to the wave and instantly made history. The premise was to ride the biggest wave ever and look to get a man or woman on a 100-foot wave. In the entire first season world records were shattered one right after the other.
HBO’s 100 Foot Wave series will be back for a third season
The second season of this show began airing in 2023 and the storyline was expanded. The series began following more surfers which include Kai Lenny and Justine Dupont. The word had gotten out about this big wave spot and now contests are held there. McNamara has since passed the torch on to younger riders but the quest for the 100-foot wave is still ongoing.
The second season also brought some other breaks into the limelight. Mavericks and Jaws were featured during a time in 2020 when surfing was not allowed in Portugal’s big wave spot due to COVID. There is no word yet on what the third season will bring, but with surfers taking more and more risks daily to get the biggest waves they can there should be no shortage of interesting stories to tell.
