Laura Enever Scores World Record Breaking Wave In Hawaii

There is a new world record in the world of surfing today. Big wave surfer Laura Enever has broken the Guinness Book World Records for the biggest wave ever ridden by a female. This monster wave ridden by Enever took place in Hawaii last January. Enever paddled into this wave with a group of friends after being waitlisted by the Eddie Invitational. Instead of waiting on the beach to be invited into the Eddie Invitational Enever took to the waves and wound up getting the wave of a lifetime.
This monster ride measured 43.6 feet tall. In the nine months since this ride in January experts have been studying the footage, pictures, and videos of this ride in order to calculate the exact height. The calculations included the height of Enever on the wave and the height from bottom to peak. With all this and consideration an average ride will now be included in the Guinness Book of World Records.

“That’s the beauty of big wave surfing. I was a competitive surfer on the world tour, going for a world title for my whole life,” Enever told Fansided. “I did seven years on the tour, and then I quit competing for big wave surfing, for the love of it, I was never doing it to try and get the record or anything, you just do it because you kind of are addicted to that feeling. Every time you go out, you want to catch a bigger wave or a better wave and you have these goals. But well, the record never was my goal and so it’s just, it’s so cool the way it’s happened. It’s given me so much empowerment.”
Perhaps this is just the beginning of what is going to be possible for big wave riders going forward. Many times big wave riders are too quick to jump on their JetSki‘s and get towed into a monster wave. Now the possibilities of what can be accomplished with a paddle in writing or expanding. With rising temperatures of climate change perhaps bigger waves will be on the horizon. And ever hopes that her record will stand for a while but knows that the Talon pool of big red riding females is deep and with technology enhancements and travel it’s easier to get to these giant waves when they’re happening. It is the very same time to be a fan of big wave surf fan.
