The Laax Open in Switzerland takes a hit due to COVID-19
The Laax Open in Switzerland will be going down this weekend and will be the first time many riders will be back in competition for some time. The long-awaited return for a snowboarding comp is something to look forward to but many familiar faces will be missing from the lineup. Two big names were removed due to testing positive for COVID-19. Kyle Mack and Lyon Farrell are out of this week’s Laax Open in Switzerland after testing positive for the coronavirus. Mack and Farrell are asymptomatic, according to U.S. Ski and Snowboard on Monday per NBC Sports.
Shaun White was originally going to join the competition before pulling out due to an undisclosed reason not related to COVID. Also Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim is still planning to compete for the first time since March.
The halfpipe event will air on the NBC Olympic Channel on Jan. 23 at noon ET.
